Woman, 55, dies at flat in Cambridgeshire as man, 43, held for murder

POLICE have launched a murder investigation following the death of a woman in village in Cambridgeshire.

A 55-year-old woman, who was has not been named, was taken to hospital following an incident at a property yesterday and later died in hospital.

A man, 43, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at Parkside Police Station, Cambridge.

Detectives were today investigating the scene of the suspected murder in Lamb, Drove, Cambourne, Cambs.

A forensics tent stood on the grass outside two modern ground-floor flats, in a residential area of the village.

Members of a forensics team could be seen entering the tent with a bag, while two officers stood guard outside.

Forensic officers in white coats could also be seen entering the doors to what appear to two adjacent first-floor flats.

Two police scientific support unit vehicles and a police car were parked nearby.

A man living in a neighbouring flat, who did not want to be named, said: “I don’t know what happened. They were my friends.”

A woman living opposite the flats said: “The police were there all day yesterday. I came out at 6am and they were there.”

Police were called by the ambulance service to Lamb Drove with reports of concern at 1.35am.

The 55-year-old woman was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, in a critical condition but died yesterday afternoon after her condition deteriorated.

The apprehended man from Cambourne, was first arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, but has now been rearrested on suspicion of murder.

Investigations continue at the scene and officers are keeping the family of the victim up-to-date.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place tomorrow.
