Why Meghan Markle could find Queen’s pheasant shoot Christmas tradition VERY awkward

PRINCE Harry’s animal-loving fiancee Meghan Markle may find Christmas with the royals a little awkward due to a long-standing festive tradition the family enjoy.

Harry reportedly surprised gamekeepers at Sandringham with his decision to skip the festive post-breakfast shoot last year – and it’s not clear if he make the same decision again this year in an apparent bid to please his wife.

Prince Charles and Prince William always take part in the annual ritual on the 20,000-acre estate.

Last year, as reports suggested Harry would be skipping the tradition to please Meghan – his fiancée at the time – a royal insider said: “The Boxing Day shoot was always going to be a tricky issue.

“Meghan is a keen animal rights campaigner and doesn’t like hunting in any form.

“Harry loves it and has always been out there on Boxing Day. But if it means breaking with long-standing royal traditions to avoid upsetting her, so be it. It’s fair to say that there are some pretty stunned faces around here.”

A pal of Harry’s added: “If Meghan’s not comfortable with him doing the shoot, he wouldn’t want to upset her.”

Meghan is known as an animal rights campaigner.

She has previously said that she sticks to a vegan diet when filming shows, and has said: “I try to eat vegan during the week and then have a little bit more flexibility with what I dig into on the weekends.”

The new royal has also previously refused to wear fur.

Her activism even led Piers Morgan to joke that Meghan and Harry’s baby will be a “gender fluid vegan”.

“There’s so much to say about a woman who’s three months pregnant,” Piers said sarcastically on Good Morning Britain.

“Will it eat meat or will it be a vegan? I reckon she’ll put it through the ringer and it’ll be vegan.

“It’ll be a gender fluid vegan.”
